As part of a research project of the Department of Industrial Management of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences and Architecture with the company ArcelorMittal in Zelzate, we have an immediate opening for a Scientific Researcher. It is a contract for 2 years, but this can be extended. The salary is based on the UGent scales, but can be adjusted based on specific knowledge and experience of the candidate.

Function

This challenging and interesting position offers you the possibility of:

• putting technical and administrative processes into mathematic models with a view on cost management, quality and output
• making operational studies that include the following stages: problem definition, model development, system development, computer implementing, commissioning and performance ensuring
• exploring a large variety of business problems, concerning technological, logistic or business issues
• progressing towards a position in which your focus will be the works, the client or IT

Profile

• You thrive on intellectual brainwork as long as it relates to real industrial or logistic problems
• you keep an overview, even in complex situations
• you are capable of finishing tasks on time
• you are a genuine team player but you are also able to work on your own

This one-week summer course will develop your knowledge and skills in regards to the application of conceptual creative thinking. “We will explore creative ways of finding solutions by viewing problems as opportunities with a focus on profit and non-profit”, says Lieven Desomviele from Accio. Accio is an initiative from the Arteveldehogeschool and its goal is to stimulate creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship among its students, alumni and employees.

The aim of the course is not to offer knowledge “ex cathedra”, but the focus will lie on cooperative, conceptual thinking (as opposed to analytical thinking). “We will facilitate you in order to transform your ideas into an innovative (business) plan”, Lieven continues. Participants will have the opportunity to think about problems, because these can become doorways into opportunities.

You will be challenged to find new ways of looking at difficulties based on real case studies from TP Vision and your own marketable ideas. During the pop-up school of creativity you will be provided an array of learning experiences with brainstorms, flipped classroom lectures and tutorials. These will take place in cooperation with external partners, students and teachers.
